Narrow and
Tall Spaces
Designed for a home in Geylang.
The main challenge was to make the space feel as large as possible in such a narrow and tall apartment. We did this by using light colours on the walls and floor and then adding details in white that would draw your eye up, down and around. We also used mirrors strategically to make it seem like there was more space than there actually was.
We chose to use light colors to reflect more light into this long and narrow apartment, making sure light reaches the far end of the apartment. Storage was an important factor as well, we designed plenty of storage all over the apartment. Being a narrow apartment, having a dining table is quite difficult to achieve. We designed a pull-out dining table with a storage bench that cleverly camouflages into the kitchen island when not in use. You don’t want storage in your kitchen to be an afterthought, and no one wants to feel like a pack rat that can’t throw anything away. Use things that have multiple purposes: This is what we did with the dining bench. It’s not just a table, but also a piece of storage that can be stowed away when not in use. This gives you more space for other things and helps with clutter too.
